Where is God Leading You?

Daily we have been sharing a few thoughts in our attempt to inspire you in your Daily Lenten Journey. We began a month ago, and still have nearly a month to do until we reach our destination. Is Great Lent more than just seven weeks of prayer and fasting? Since we call this series our Daily Lenten Journey, have you wondered just where God is leading you on this journey?

In today’s reading below, we hear about God’s invitation to Abram to embark a journey to a far away place. Abram trusted God, and God blessed him with a family and land. Unlike Abram, we know where God is leading us on this journey, and it isn’t a Paschal lamb dinner. Abram had to leave his family behind, leave a familiar land behind, and go where God had invited him. Where are we be led?

He is leading us away from our familiar world to heaven. Since we are physical beings, living in a physical world, heaven seems like a far away strange land. Great Lent can help us become familiar with heaven, so that we no longer feel that it is far away. We are invited by God to enter the Church, especially during Great Lent, to become familiar with heaven.

The Church, meaning the Temple, is heaven on earth. Go back and read our Daily Lenten Journey post, “Experience the Energy of God in Worship” and recall that worship in the Church is designed to prepare us to experience God in heaven. So, since God is inviting us to travel with Him to heaven, rather than think of heaven as a far away place, go to Church and become familiar with heaven. Heaven is where God is leading you. Great Lent is the practice run.

Now the LORD said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you. And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and him who curses you I will curse; and by you all the families of the earth shall bless themselves.” So Abram went, as the LORD had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran. And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother’s son, and all their possessions which they had gathered, and the persons that they had gotten in Haran; and they set forth to go to the land of Canaan. When they had come to the land of Canaan, Abram passed through the land to the place at Shechem, to the oak of Moreh. At that time the Canaanites were in the land. Then the LORD appeared to Abram, and said, “To your descendants I will give this land.” So he built there an altar to the LORD, who had appeared to him. – Genesis 12.1-7
