It isn’t too late until it is

We are almost to the final stretch of Great Lent with only one Sunday remaining. If you haven’t taken the opportunity to grow closer to Christ as of yet, you may think it’s too late, but it’s never too late until it’s too late. Even a ninety-nine-year old man can begin a new journey with Christ.

In today’s reading from Genesis, (you can read the entire passage below) God calls Abram to embark on a new journey. God says, “Walk before Me and be blameless,” and as a result Abram becomes Abraham, the father of many nations. Abram didn’t hesitate to take God up on His offer. He immediately fell on his face and worshiped God. Yet have only ten days remaining on our Great Lenten Journey and you may not have yet responded with the willingness of Abram, but it isn’t too late.

The wonder of God’s patience is that He calls us, He invites us, He awaits with open arms for us to turn from the world to walk before Him blameless. It doesn’t matter how old we are, so long as we are able to turn and walk, when we do God welcomes us and makes good on His covenant with us. We enter heaven and sit with Him on His throne. Once we accept His offer, He will bless us as He blessed Abraham. We may not father many nations, but our lives are no less blessed.

It would be good for us to remember that Abram’s willingness to accept God’s invitation is the reason our faith is welcomed and honored by God. We are members of the nations to which Abraham’s faith gave birth. As you consider the final ten days of your Great Lenten Journey, consider answering God’s call to walk before Him blameless. You may not be ninety-nine, but you have no reason to wait.

When Abram was ninety-nine years old the LORD appeared to Abram, and said to him, “I am God Almighty; walk before me, and be blameless. And I will make my covenant between me and you, and will multiply you exceedingly.” Then Abram fell on his face; and God said to him, “Behold, my covenant is with you, and you shall be the father of a multitude of nations. No longer shall your name be Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for I have made you the father of a multitude of nations. I will make you exceedingly fruitful; and I will make nations of you, and kings shall come forth from you. And I will establish my covenant between me and you and your descendants after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your descendants after you. And I will give to you, and to your descendants after you, the land of your sojournings, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.” Genesis 17.1-9
