2026 Daily Lenten Journey Day 27 – You are not Invisible to God

You are an exceptional employee. You are never late for work, and you always complete your tasks with efficiency and excellence. Still, you never seem to get that coveted promotion. You feel invisible to your boss. Why can’t your efforts be rewarded?

If that is how you feel at work, any many feel that way, I can only imagine how you feel at Church. You’re at every Sunday Liturgy on time. You fast. You say your prayers. You set aside extra money for the poor. Still, you feel like God doesn’t see you. How long do you have wait?

BRETHREN, we feel sure of better things that belong to salvation. For God is not so unjust as to overlook your work and the love which you showed for his sake in serving the saints, as you still do. And we desire each one of you to show the same earnestness in realizing the full assurance of hope until the end, so that you may not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises. – Hebrews 6.9-12

At that time, Jesus returned from the region of Tyre, and went through Sidon to the Sea of Galilee, through the region of Dekapolis. And they brought to him a man who was deaf and had an impediment in his speech; and they besought him to lay his hand upon him. And taking him aside from the multitude privately, he put his fingers into his ears, and he spat and touched his tongue; and looking up to heaven, he sighed, and said to him, “Ephphatha,” that is, “Be opened.” And his ears were opened, his tongue was released, and he spoke plainly. And he charged them to tell no one; but the more he charged them, the more zealously they proclaimed it. And they were astonished beyond measure, saying, “He has done all things well: he even makes the deaf hear and the dumb speak.” – Mark 7.31-37

Feeling invisible is more about us than it is about others. This is why Saint Paul urges us to patience and hope for our future with God. The problem is, we want recognition now! Ok. Here’s your recognition. God sees you and He is please by your effort.

Did you expect more? Did you expect earthly praises for your spiritual efforts? How about all those saints who died peacefully unknown to those around them. God knew them. God knew their worth. God welcomed them into heaven with open arms.

The problem isn’t whether God will recognize our efforts. The problem is our hearts are not patient. We want ‘everything’ now, and that includes God’s praise. It is why He gave us Great Lent, a time for us to work on our humility and patience.

As we wrap up the fourth week of Great Lent, I invite you to remind yourself that you are NOT invisible. Remind yourself that God does see your efforts. God will fulfill His promise to you. If you are having problems being patient, try fasting more.

Telling yourself ‘no’ through food is an excellent way to tell yourself ‘no’ when it comes to earthly praise and honors. Not every ‘star employee’ is rewarded with a promotion. Most just quietly keep up their efforts, honoring God with their hearts.

Be patient and God will do what He knows is best for you. It might be a promotion. It might not be, but when it comes to God, it will always be what is best. He sees everything and everyone with purity and love. Trust His vision of you and for you.
