Giving Thanks

Today is the Feast of Thanksgiving, not a ‘sanctioned’ nor ‘traditional’ Feast in the Orthodox sense of the word, but a Feast, nonetheless. It is also the Feast of St Katherine the Great Martyr of Alexandria. Today is the only day in the American Civil Calendar dedicated to giving thanks to God for blessings. We all have something to give thanks for, even if we don’t see the blessings.

Whether we recognize it or not, God has blessed us with life. Today, we are alive with another chance to say thank you to God and repent from the sins of yesterday. Today, we are alive with another chance to love our family and friends. Today, we are alive with another chance to get our life in order the way God wants it. This is all worth giving thanks to God. In the spirit of our new chance to love, I have come up with a special challenge today.

2021 Thanksgiving Challenge. Don’t tell anyone. Don’t report to anyone. Just pick one person in your life in which your relationship is strained. Call them and tell them you love them. No explanation. No excuses. Just tell them you love them.
