Living a Transfigured Life
These few days this week the reminder from the Church is to life lives that are transfigured by the Light of Christ. Only yesterday we celebrated Christ shining as bright light to show us His glory. Now it is our turn to say to Him, “It is good for us to be here.”
At that time, Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain apart by themselves; and he was transfigured before them, and his garments became glistening, intensely white, as no fuller on earth could bleach them. And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses; and they were talking to Jesus. And Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is well that we are here; let us make three booths, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah.” For he did not know what to say, for they were exceedingly afraid. And a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice came out of the cloud, “This is my beloved son; listen to him.” And suddenly, looking around they no longer saw any one with them but Jesus only. And as they were coming down the mountain he charged them to tell no one what they had seen, until the Son of man should have risen from the dead.
Mark 9.2-9
Saints Peter, James and John understood what it meant to witness the glory of God. They immediately offered to build altars to worship Him. We see His glory at every Sacrament of the Church, but we tend to spend our time looking for our light rather than His Light.
While the Church is still singing the hymn of The Feast of Transfigured, our ‘theme song’ for every episode of Be Transfigured, this is our chance to look for the Light of Christ that is always around us. It may be in our neighbor. It may be in the homeless person on the street. It is there.
When you choose to live a life looking for the Light of Christ, it becomes obvious where it shines. Unfortunately, we are often asleep like the disciples were that day on Mount Tabor. Don’t let the cloud of indifference blind your vision of the Light. It is there.
The Light is in every voice the honors God. The Light is in every act of love. The Light is in YOU. You only must stop focusing on your light so the Light of Christ can shine in you too. This is why Christ invites us to deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow Him. (Mark 8.34)
This is the essence of our ‘tagline’ at Be Transfigured Ministries. We work to inspire and invite all followers of Jesus Christ to Live A New Life In Christ because we have been blessed to see the Light of Christ. Here’s to a New Life in the Light.
