2026 Daily Lenten Journey Day 31 – Mid Journey Excursion
Today is the Feast of the Annunciation of the Theotokos by the Archangel Gabriel. It is a day of celebration in the middle of our Great Lenten Journey. I took a lot of road trips over the years. Every trip has that moment when the journey pauses for a great side trip.
Ok. I know the Feast isn’t an excursion, nor is it ‘just a side trip’. I don’t mean to disrespect the Feast in any way. What I want to get across to you today is our journey takes a break greater than just a rest stop Saturday. Today is a Feast and deserves celebration.
It is the only day during Great Lent when a ‘regular’ Divine Liturgy is celebrated. For Greeks, it is also a day to celebrate freedom and Greek Independence Day. Either way, it is a day we get off the Lenten ‘road’ and experience the joy of the Lord.
Today marks the crowning of our salvation and the revelation of the mystery before all ages. For the Son of God becomes the son of the Virgin, and Gabriel proclaims the grace. Wherefore, we also cry out with him, “Hail, O full of grace, the Lord is with you.” –
Apolytikion of Annunciation
I pray you can get to Church today and celebrate with more than just a fish sandwich. YES! Fish is ‘allowed’ today if you are strict fasting. If you are engaged in a less strict fasting regimen, I might suggest you speak to your spiritual father about how you can celebrate today.
Our Daily Lenten Journey will return tomorrow with more ‘serious’ topics.
