On the Throne of God

On the Feast of Ascension, the Church commemorates the triumphant return of Christ to His Heavenly Throne. His return is more than just His journey home. His Ascension is our journey too. With the completion of His earthly mission, He takes us with Him to His Throne.

While the Church stood staring into heaven on that day, they unknowingly joined Christ on the Throne. We are more than the children of God, though being His children is a great privilege. We are His heirs. We are now part of His Royal household. We call that the Royal Priesthood.

In our baptism and chrismation, we are eternally joined to Christ. Communion with God is a two-way relationship. He joins us in everything we do as Saint Paul reminds us. “Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ?” (1st Corinthians 6.15) We also join Him.

The Feast of Ascension is more than just a historical celebration. It is more than just a commemoration of Christ’s return to Heaven. It is a celebration of our ascension too, if we believe our communion with God is real.

I invite you today to do you best to remember your communion with God. God is with you everything you do. You are with Him in everything He does, even sitting on His Throne.

When Jesus rose early on the first day of the week, He appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom He had cast out seven demons. She went and told those who had been with Him, as they mourned and wept. But when they heard that He was alive and had been seen by her, they would not believe it. After this he appeared in another form to two of them, as they were walking into the country. And they went back and told the rest, but they did not believe them. After this He appeared to the eleven themselves as they sat at table and He upbraided them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had not believed those who saw Him after He had risen. And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: in My name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.” So then the Lord Jesus, after He had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God. And they went forth and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by the signs that attended it. Amen.

Mark 16.9-20

Now it is our turn to go out and share the Good News of communion with God. Now is our turn to preach everywhere.
